DC Freediving Club Rules

1. I will never conduct underwater apnea training without a trained, suitable buddy directly observing me from a close distance, even outside of the Club.

2. When I am the safety for a diver, I will always be vigilant and maintain continuous observation and suitable distance to my diver.

3. There always be one safety at the surface for every diver underwater.

4. I will follow instructions of the Organizers for that event

5. I will exercise common sense and practice all my activities within the Club event while following suitable safety practices.

6. Exceptions
a. There may be up to two divers for one safety if the divers are doing apnea swims of 25 meters or less, and will not repeat the swim without at least three breaths or thirty seconds in between each lap of 25 meters.

b. There may be up to two divers for one safety if the divers are practicing static apnea

c. DC Freediving Club participants will not be penalized for performing short, 25 meters or less underwater swims (‘unders,’) if the following conditions are met. (1) swimming is done without weights (2) as part of their surface swimming training (3) under supervision of a lifeguard, (4) with other lane mates in the pool who have been informed of such intention (5) and the underwater swimming does not repeat itself or otherwise resembles an apnea table.

7. Appearances matter. I will always be aware of how others see me and conduct myself in a fashion that makes freediving an organized, serious and safe sport.
